Amarillo, Part 3 Palo Duro Canyon State Park

IMG_4980 So, after a great lunch break, it was off to Palo Duro Canyon State Park to explore.

OH – wait – why are there so many cars?  OH…yeah…spring break!

No matter – it was a beautiful afternoon and the views were amazing.  I was riding in the backseat, and the pullouts were pretty busy, so I didn’t get many pictures.  We’ll try a link to my web album & see if it works!

Palo Duro Canyon State Park & Dinner with family

We’ll, that’s about it for yesterday – if I don’t get out of here, there will be nothing at all to report for today!

‘til later…..

Amarillo, Part 2 Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum

One thing I learned about at Nick’s rally was Windows Live Writer….so I’m learning it as I post today…so far, very easy & definitely easier on uploading pictures & adding hyperlinks.  However, it did surprise me by running out of space, thus, yesterday’s adventures are being presented in probably 3 parts!  Live & learn.

After Cadillac Ranch, the next order of business was:

IMG_4935IMG_4939IMG_4954IMG_4957IMG_4941     Texas’ largest history museum….from dinosaurs to conquistadors…frontier towns….the petroleum industry…art gallery…it’s all here!

Morning in Amarillo…

IMG_5020 Can you say cold & foggy?  It’s 34, with a wind chill of 28…..now normally, this would not be so bad inside the rig, where it’s warm & cozy, BUT, it seems we are out of propane….grrrrrrr…easily fixed, but requires getting dressed & out into the cold!  OR wait a while – the forcast is for warm & sunny today!

Yesterday was a fun day for the Calvert girls!

First order of business:  the Cadillac Ranch, just up the street from our RV park.  Read about it here: Cadillac Ranch.   And here are a few of our pictures:IMG_4918 Here I am with sisters Donna & Nancy – note the windblown hair!!!

Amarillo by morning....

Hum along in your best Geroge Strait voice...

We actually made it all the way on Sunday night.  Yuma to Amarillo, 1018 miles, in three days...and I'm so glad we pushed it.  While we drove through a few flurries (yes, the s---- word!) on Sunday, the forcast for Monday was worse.  We were parked, set up, and cozy warm on Monday while it rained & snowed all day - high temp in the mid-40s.

My younger sister & family live here, and I definitely wanted a good visit before heading to CO for the summer.  As a bonus, my youngest sister & her youngest daughter drove up from DFW area yesterday for a few days.

So today, we leave John here at the rig to work on taxes, and we girls are off to play!  Probably pictures to follow tonight.

Life is good!

Gypsy Journal Rally - it's over....til next time!

WOW - where has the week gone?  We had a wonderful time at the Rally.  We supported the vendors (ie., spent lots of $$)...went to lots of seminars....visited with friends and made new friends....ate pizza.....happy hours....and enjoyed great evening entertainment!

pizza for 400+ people
the calm before the storm...

a little organized chaos...plenty of pizza for all!

must be an interesting seminar!

Donna and Stu having toooo much fun!

David Bradley - cowboy singer & yodeler
This guy was the highlight of the rally for me!

Michael Hargis - also an excellent entainer!

And, of course, the required AZ sunset!

We left this morning & are now in Willcox, AZ, enroute to Amarillo.

Gypsy Journal Rally - Day 1

What a fun first day at the Rally - and today was mostly registration and getting everyone parked. John spent the day helping the parking crew, and I had a Mary Kay facial and took LOTS of pictures (really, I wanted to help, but everything was under control & they didn't really need me)!

I've had a great time getting to know the Mary Kay consultant here at the rally - she's a really neat lady! The BEST thing about RVing is the really wonderful people one meets.

Great program tonight - but my NEW computer is not cooperating & I can't pull up Picassa to upload my pictures...we'll try again tomorrow.
Tomorrow looks to be a very busy day, starting, of course with FOOD - coffee & donuts for all. This may be a fattening week.
More later.....

Yuma, AZ

After an uneventful drive (the best kind when pulling a 5th wheel!!!), we are in Yuma for about a week. These pictures were taken along the roadside from the truck at about 65mph!!! Note the GREEN! This has been a very rainy winter here.

Pulled into "Shangri-La RV Park - it's appeal when researching was 90' pull-thru sites. Oh good, thought I, nice & easy...close to fairground, etc. Well, it will do for a couple of nights, but probably won't be returning - - - the sites are on top of each other so that the rigs have to be just right so the slides won't bump into each other.

Tomorrow, grocery shopping, Sam's club, medical appointment, then maybe golf? We'll see how it goes.

A few days here, then off to the fairgrounds for the Gypsy Journal Rally.
